This Chair Took Adam Savage Two Years To Make!

Adam Savage spent nearly two years transforming an Emeco 1006 Navy chair—originally built for the US Navy in WWII—into the lightest version he could imagine. By drilling thousands of precisely laid-out holes into its welded aluminum frame, he pushed the limits of both design and fabrication.

What started as a simple “let’s see how much weight we can shave off” turned into a complex engineering puzzle. Between mapping out hole patterns, tweaking CNC operations, and wrestling with structural integrity, Adam’s experiment proved far more challenging (and rewarding) than he first anticipated.
