Adam Savage spent almost two years turning an already feather-light Emeco Navy Chair (the classic WWII-designed aluminum seat) into an absolute minimalist machine, drilling thousands of holes in a carefully plotted pattern to shave off every last gram. What began as a straightforward hack morphed into a surprisingly complex exercise in layout, machining and patience.
Along the way, Savage dug deep into the chair’s history, wrestling with jigs, toolpaths and his own lofty expectations—proving that sometimes the simplest idea can become the most maddeningly intricate project.
